IGCSE LOTF tasks- Language Analysis

Huts on the beach

How is language being used to develop Jack's transformation?

Jack us given animalistic and preditorial features, further enhancing his sudden transformation from a simple choir boy. The setting of the jungle,"the creepers that festooned them lost themselves in a green duck thirty feet above him; and all about was the undergrowth.", portrays the sort of change Jack has gone through. Above the trees, the light and sunshine show the brought child Jack was, but once he passes through the trees and descends onto the undergrowth everything is dark and unknown, just like Jack's personality.
Then the author uses "dog-like", to describe Jack's position and posture. This shows that this young boy, Jack, would endure the pain of crawling on all fours. A normal, civilised boy wouldn't normally go through the trouble of enduring the psi for this sort of activity. However Jack's obsession pushes on thus-,"unheeding his discomfort".
